Florida Vacation Essentials: 10 Things you Need to Get for an Epic Time.

So, you’ve just landed in the Sunshine State—welcome! Whether you’re here for the beaches, theme parks, or just trying to soak up as much Vitamin D as possible, there are a few things you’ll want to grab ASAP to make the most of your Florida adventure. These may sound like obvious things but you’d be surprised how often people are unprepared. Here’s my list for Florida Vacation Essentials.

Florida Beach Essentials

1. Florida Vacation Essentials: Sunscreen (and lots of it)

Florida sun does not play. Even if it’s cloudy or you’re just planning to “walk around a bit,” that UV index is sky-high. Get a good broad-spectrum SPF (at least 30), and reapply throughout the day. If you’re in Florida, you’re most likely going to be outside majority of the time. Don’t be that person burnt to a crisp when they get back from vacation and be sore and aching for days after your trip.

2. Bug Spray

Florida is beautiful, but the mosquitos are relentless. Especially if you’re heading anywhere near the Everglades, doing any outdoor exploring, or even just chilling at a park in the evening. A good bug repellent is key to staying bite-free and happy, making it one of the Florida vacation essentials.

3. Reusable Water Bottle

It’s hot, it’s humid, and you’re gonna be sweating. Staying hydrated isn’t optional here. Grab a reusable water bottle and keep it filled. You’ll save money and help the planet—win-win!

4. Flip-Flops or Sandals

Florida is basically flip-flop country. Unless you’re hitting a fancy spot or going hiking, you’ll want something airy and easy to slip on and off. Plus, they’re a must if you’re heading to the beach (which, let’s be real, you probably are).

Honorable mention are crocs or some water shoes. Some of the beaches there can be really rocky as you get into the water, so having some good water proof shows for the beach is a game changer. You’re feet won’t be all scraped up and you’ll be comfortable walking around.

5. Boat Shirt

Let me tell you, boat shirts are the best thing when in Florida. They’re long sleeve, lightweight and water proof. They look good and they cover pretty much your whole body so you don’t need to lather yourself in sunscreen. I grabbed myself a few last time I was there and they’re great. Sweat-absorbent, fun designs and don’t have to worry about getting burnt or feeling gross with sunscreen.

6. Beach Towel or Blanket

If you go to Florida, you’re going in the water, weather it’s the ocean, gulf or a pool, you will be in water. Pick up a lightweight, quick-dry towel or a blanket you can throw down on the sand or grass for an impromptu chill session. Might be better off buying one when you get to Florida rather than bringing yours from home and on the plane. Chances are your towel is going to be wet, dirty and sandy.

7. Rain Poncho or Compact Umbrella

Florida weather is famously unpredictable. One minute it’s sunshine and palm trees, the next it’s full-on downpour. Grab a cheap poncho or a travel-sized umbrella so you’re not caught off guard (and soaked).

8. Sunglasses

This is another obvious one, but it’s a good idea to pack multiple sunglasses. If you’re going in the water or on a boat, there is a good chance that you could lose your sunglasses, it’s happened to me too many times to count. Probably want to buy a cheap pair if you plan on bringing them in the water with you and leave the Ray Bands back at the hotel. But sunglasses are an absolute must for visiting Florida.

9. Florida / Hawaiian Shirt

If you’re vacationing in Florida, you got to look the part. Who doesn’t look some fun Hawaiian shirts! The floral, vibrant colors, lightweight and button down? If you’re in Florida, let loose, have some fun and rock your Hawaiian shirts. I always have a few packed as they’re great for going out or just lounging around the hotel or on the beach. Lightweight, sweat proof and you’ll look the part.

10. A Laid-Back Attitude

Okay, you can’t technically buy this, but it’s essential. Florida runs on island time, even when you’re not on an island. Be ready to go with the flow, take things slow, and just enjoy the ride. You’re on vacation, after all.

Final Thoughts
Florida’s a wild, wonderful place full of surprises. I have two separate trips planned to Florida this year, one to check out the new Epic Universe at Universal Studios and then another to go to Miami! There’s tons to do in Florida, whether it be relaxing on the beach, swimming in the ocean, going Jet skiing and dolphin watching to partying at beach bars and living it at Universal Studios or Disney World, these things will make it so you have a time to remember.
