This Beach in Florida was named the BEST beach in the South: Here’s Why

Some beaches impress you the first time you visit. Others you keep going back because of the memories you have there. Clearwater Beach in Florida does both.

I’ve been to Clearwater Beach several times, when i visit my Aunt and Uncle in Tampa, we always make it a point to go to Clearwater for a day or two as its one of the best beaches I’ve been too on the East Coast. It’s a fun, inviting atmosphere that is great for families and friends.

In 2023 and 2025 it was named as the “Best Beach in the South” by USA Today and listed in the top 15 of “Top 15 White-Sand Beaches in the World ” Here’s what makes it truly deserving of the title.

The Sand Really Is That Good

Clearwater Beach in Florida is best known for its fine, white quartz sand—and it genuinely lives up to the hype. Unlike many Florida beaches with coarser sand, rocks or shell fragments, this sand is soft, bright, and surprisingly cool underfoot, even on hot days.

The first time I visited, the sand immediately stood out. Years later, it still feels just as remarkable. It’s ideal for long walks, relaxing by the water, or spending an entire afternoon barefoot without discomfort. It’s very soft and just the ideal sand you would want at any beach.

Clear, Calm Gulf Waters

Located along the Gulf of Mexico, Clearwater Beach benefits from calm, warm waters that are perfect for swimming and floating. The waves are gentle, and the shoreline slopes gradually, making it easy to enjoy the water without feeling rushed or crowded. Not to mention the water is usually always pretty warm so you can lay in the gulf and soak up the sun for hours without feeling cold.

I’ve visited during different seasons, and the water conditions are consistently pleasant. On clear days, the Gulf takes on a turquoise color that rivals beaches far beyond Florida.

Sunsets That Never Get Old

Clearwater Beach sunsets are unforgettable. Each evening, the sun slowly sinks into the Gulf, filling the sky with layers of orange, pink, and gold.

Pier 60 is a favorite spot to watch the sunset, and for good reason. The nightly sunset celebration adds a lively but relaxed atmosphere with street performers and local vendors, making it feel special without being overdone. Even after seeing it many times, it never loses its appeal.

Whatever kind of vibe you’re in the mood for, there is always something to do in Clearwater Beach. Frenchy’s Bar & Grill and The Shipwreck are two of my favorite spots. to go too after spending all day on the beach.

Frenchy’s has a great atmosphere, great food and you can sit out on the beach, while The Shipwreck is a fun bar with a DJ, different tropical cocktails and a lively vibe.
