3 of the Most Affordable Towns to Stay Near Zion National Park

One of the biggest decisions you’ll make when planning a trip to Zion National Park is deciding where to stay.

When I was planning my first trip to Zion, I spent way too much time comparing hotels, Airbnb’s, and nearby towns trying to figure out the best place to use as a home base.

After spending a few days exploring Zion and staying in Springdale, I can confidently say this:

If it’s your first time visiting Zion National Park, stay in Springdale.

Could you save some money by staying in nearby towns like Hurricane or La Verkin? Probably

But after experiencing the shuttle system, the crowds, and how quickly parking fills up, I personally think the convenience of staying in Springdale is worth it.

My girlfriend and I stayed at a small inn called Under the Eaves Inn during our visit. It was nothing fancy, pretty small, but it was affordable, comfortable, and within walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, and the Springdale shuttle stop.

For a first trip to Zion, it was exactly what we needed.

In this guide, I’ll break down the best places to stay near Zion National Park, who each area is best for, and where I would personally stay if I were planning another trip.

Why Where You Stay Matters in Zion

Unlike some national parks where you can easily drive everywhere, Zion works a little differently.

One thing that surprised me during my first visit was how important the shuttle system is.

Parking inside the park fills up incredibly fast.

When we arrived around 10 a.m., there was no chance of finding a parking spot inside Zion.

If you’re staying in Springdale, you’ll typically take the Springdale shuttle to the park entrance and then transfer to the Zion Canyon shuttle that takes visitors throughout the park.

At first it sounds a little confusing, but it’s actually pretty simple once you do it.

The bigger issue is convenience.

If you’re staying 30 to 45 minutes away, you’re adding even more driving time to an already busy day.

That’s why I believe your lodging choice can have a huge impact on your overall Zion experience.

Best Overall Area to Stay Near Zion National Park: Springdale

If you’re a first-time visitor, I would recommend staying in Springdale without hesitation.

Springdale, Utah at Zion National Park
View from Springdale, Utah

Springdale sits directly outside the entrance to Zion National Park and serves as the park’s main gateway town.

It’s basically Zion’s personal little town.

Everything you need is right there:

  • Hotels
  • Inns
  • Vacation rentals
  • Restaurants
  • Coffee shops
  • Grocery stores
  • Bike rentals
  • Outfitters
  • Shuttle stops

One of my favorite things about staying in Springdale was how walkable everything felt.

After a long day of hiking, we could leave the car parked and simply walk to dinner or grab a coffee the next morning.

The town has a great atmosphere and feels like a destination itself rather than just a place to sleep.

My Experience Staying in Springdale

We stayed at Under the Eaves Inn for two nights. This inn was small and cozy, with only a handful of rooms.

You essentially rent a private bedroom and bathroom while sharing the house with a few other guests.

If you’re looking for a luxury resort, this probably isn’t your place.

But if you’re looking for a clean, affordable place to sleep, shower, and recharge after hiking all day, it worked perfectly.

The biggest advantage was location.

We could walk to restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, and the shuttle stop without needing to move the car.

Would I stay there again? Yes I would, however I would check around the other places in Springdale to see what else is available at a reasonable rate.

Best Budget-Friendly Areas Near Zion

If lodging prices in Springdale are outside your budget, the next places I’d consider are Hurricane and La Verkin.

These towns are typically more affordable than Springdale and offer a wider range of hotels and vacation rentals.

The tradeoff is convenience.

You’ll need to drive into Zion each morning and deal with traffic, parking, and the shuttle system which I don’t think is worth it. However for some travelers, saving a few hundred dollars is worth the extra effort.

For others, especially first-time visitors, it may not be.

Personally, I would search every possible option in Springdale before deciding to stay elsewhere.

There are often smaller inns, motels, and vacation rentals that can be surprisingly affordable if you book early enough.

When is the Best Time to Visit Zion National Park for First-Time Visitors (2026 Guide)

Hurricane, Utah

Hurricane is one of the most popular budget alternatives to Springdale.

It’s larger than Springdale and offers:

  • More hotel options
  • More chain restaurants
  • Lower lodging prices
  • Grocery stores and shopping

If you’re traveling with a family or trying to keep costs down, Hurricane can be a good option.

La Verkin, Utah

La Verkin sits just outside Hurricane and offers many of the same benefits.

You’ll find:

  • Affordable hotels
  • Vacation rentals
  • Easy access to Zion

Again, the biggest drawback is simply being farther away from the park.

How Many Days Should You Stay?

For first-time visitors, I recommend spending at least two full days in Zion National Park.

One day simply isn’t enough.

If hiking is your goal, I would suggest:

Day One

  • Angels Landing
  • Scout Lookout
  • Zion Canyon Scenic Drive
  • Dinner in Springdale

Day Two

  • The Narrows
  • Riverside Walk
  • Explore Springdale
  • Relax at the Cowboy’s & Angel’s Speakeasy for some fun cocktails

Giving yourself two full days allows time for:

  • Shuttle waits
  • Exploring the park
  • Hiking
  • Enjoying Springdale and the scenery of Zion

Best Places to Eat in Springdale

One of my favorite parts of staying in Springdale was trying the different restaurants.

It was a small town, but they had a lot of different options and nice places to eat. It really makes for a relaxing way to end the night after hiking all day in the park, which is another reason why staying in Springdale is so important.

  • Oscar’s Cafe (right next to “Under the Eaves Inn)
  • Zion Canyon Brew Pub
  • Jack’s Sports Grill
  • Cowboys & Angel’s Speakeasy

My Final Recommendation

If you’re visiting Zion National Park for the first time, stay in Springdale.

You could save money by staying in Hurricane or La Verkin, but after experiencing the park firsthand, I think the convenience of staying right outside the entrance is worth it.

You’ll spend less time driving, less time stressing about parking, and more time enjoying one of the most beautiful national parks in the United States.

If I were planning another Zion trip tomorrow, Springdale would be the first place I’d look.

Just make sure you book early.

The best places fill up fast, especially during spring and fall.
